50% of children born with heart defects will need heart surgery at sometime in their life. Of those 50%, 35% need surgery in the first month in order to survive.
The International Children’s Heart Foundation establishes country programs to provide an array of medical services which can include:
Cardiac diagnosis, surgery and post operative care for children
Medical training on-site in local hospitals and through academic medical institutions abroad
Full-time physician placement to assist in building a fully independent pediatric cardiac service.
