 Lee Streater, Volunteer

Lee Streater is a southern girl from Louisiana who has been volunteering with ICHF for four years.  Lee is a real estate agent in Memphis (http://www.leesellsmemphis.com/)  who started out as a violinist then earned her Master's in Business Communication. Lee loves living and working in Memphis because it's a city that's home to many different people from around the world.

Lee's background makes her a perfect match for the ICHF events committee, the focus of her volunteer work. When asked why she likes working on that committee, she said, "It's such a refreshing atmosphere working with the ICHF staff and other volunteers. I really value how we operate as a team. We all wear all the hats at some time or another because ICHF has volunteers who are willing to role up their sleeves."

Lee believes that ICHF events make a difference. In addition, to raising money to fund ICHF's work, the events raise awareness about the plight of children with congenital heart defects in poor countries. For that reason, Lee plunges in wherever she's needed. She's strategized for events; executed preparation tasks like training other volunteers, procuring sponsors and making publicity happen; and worked the basics during an event like taking tickets and making grilled sandwiches for the buffet.

"Right now in January we're planning our big May fundraiser Taste of Cuba. I'm very excited because we expect to double the number of people who attend from last year's very successful event.  We're building a special website to promote it."

When asked why she chose to volunteer for ICHF, it was easy for Lee to answer. "I've always worked with kids and ICHF works with kids on a global scale. ICHF medical teams repair hearts for children that don't have the access or the money. ICHF medical volunteers  make such a big difference in developing countries. I admire the physicians, nurses and technologists who humbly donate their time. I'm delighted to help raise money to keep the medical teams traveling and performing surgeries. ICHF builds friendships with people all around the world."
